"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud."

Loving is more important than giving. We should excel in loving first, as we should only be giving motivated by love. The Bible even says, "Stop giving! until we have made things right in our relationships.

Love is more important than giving. First Corinthians 13:3 says, "If I give all I posses to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing." No gift can substitutes for God's kind of love. Giving may be an expression of love, but this is not always the cause. People give for all kinds of wrong reasons.

                              Test from God
The basic question we should resolve is: How is big is God in my life?
                              • How much do I trust God?  If we truly believe Him to be the Creator, the one who controls the universe as well as our lives, we will no longer feel insecure. His promise to provide our basic needs is recorded in Matthew 6:25-34. He is able and willing to fulfill His promise.

Two questions remain to be asked.  Why do we refrain from sinning and how do we live a life free from sin? Some people spend their waking hours worrying whether this or that is sin. On the surface, this attitude looks commendable. It shows that the person is being conscientious and he does not like to sin. But ask him why he is so worry about sinning and he may tell you frankly that he is afraid of being punished for his sins.

Salvation actually involves a commitment on our part to follow Jesus Christ wholeheartedly. It should result in a genuine change in the direction of our lives. Let me illustrates.

When two people marry, they commit themselves to love, protect, and respect each other “for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health . . .” Note that after they make their lives. Before, they each lived separate lives, pleasing themselves. Now, they commit their live to each other, to share life – so there is a change in focus.

Only the Holy Spirit can transform our character. Only the Holy Spirit can make us more patient. But the Bible also teaches, parallel with the sovereign work of the Holy Spirit, the direct responsibility of man over his own behavior. Because of our free will we are accountable for what we are. Even if it is the Holy Spirit who makes us more patient there are, nevertheless, practical steps we can take for us to grow in patience. Here are some of these practical steps.

"God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble." Pride is very deceptive sin, and we are all susceptible. James 4:6 says, "God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble." Listen to this familiar story found in Luke 18:10-14: "Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood up and prayed about himself: 'God, I thank you that I am not like other men-robbers, evildoers, adulterers-or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.' But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, 'God, have mercy on me, a sinner." I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted." Which of these two represents the good church-goer? It is the prideful Pharisee, not the despised tax collector. God is much more interested in our heart condition than in any appearance of success.

                              God Is Our Provider
God made this world and everything in it. Genesis 1:1 says, "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth." In the beginning, it was a beautiful, pristine place. He did it for a purpose, to give it to us. Genesis 1:26-28 says, "Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea, and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground." So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground." First God gave us life; then, in the same verses, He gave us authority over the whole world. There were no string attached to this gift. It was freely given.

                              Getting Sick
Should we expect God to spare us from sickness and death because Jesus died on the cross for our sins? You find it interesting that some preachers who say God wants us to enjoy good health are able to separate sickness from death. You never be a person say that you won’t die if you simply ask God to keep you alive. Yet the same logic is applied to sickness. It is said that we need not be sick if we simply ask God for healing.

"That everyone may get and drink, and find satisfaction in all his toil - this is the gift of God."

Where do we get our finances? The following proverb suggests the answer: "Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its good at harvest" (Proverbs 6:6-8). How do the ways of the ant apply to us?

I’ve heard or read similar stories over and over again: Followers of Jesus tell how they came to a point in their life when they longed for a more intimate relationship with the Lord, for more meaningful worship, or for greater effectiveness in their service or evangelism. Then they found “something more.” What they found has many different forms.

Some find what they are looking for in what we might consider a cult. There they may discover strong leadership, a sense of community, a unique identity, and fresh “revelations” to supplement (or even overrule) the Bible.
