Are you an expert in a subject? A whiz in algebra, a grammar genius? A retired teacher? Then you can earn money tutoring, either at your home or the client’s.

You can earn $25 to $35 an hour for teaching your subject one-on-one to students who need extra help. If you are proficient in computers, there is a tremendous market for this service. The going rate is about $40 per hour.

Some states require certification so check with the high school and college in your area before advertising. Referrals from teachers will help you get started.

To make sure your students stay for the term you may want to offer a package “on-csll” deal so you can help a student through a test or whenever needed during the semester for a fixed fee.
