Human food contains both carcinogens and anti-carcinogens. However, certain dietary factors such as antioxidant, vitamins (like vitamins C and E), beta carotene, anti-oxidant minerals, dietary fiber and low dietary fat have a protection role against nutritionally-linked cancers.

A study reviewed several factors responsible for carcinogenesis and attributed the contribution from diet as 35% and from lifestyle 33%. Therefore 68% of the causative factors of cancer can be avoided.
