Stroke
Not smoking is the best way to protect yourself against stroke. You can also reduce your risk with diet and exercise.
  • Limit cholesterol and fat. A diet high in cholesterol and fat, especially saturated fat, may promote buildup of plaque by increasing the amount of fat and cholesterol in your blood. Limit the total amount of meat, poultry or fish you eat to five to seven ounces daily. Eat only lean cuts of red meat. Choose dairy products made with skim or low fat milk. Limit eggs to four a week. Use polyunsaturated oils (such as corn, sun flower or soybeans) or monounsaturated oils (such as canola, olive or peanut). Avoid lard and solid shortenings.

Heart Attack
When the amount of blood flowing through the coronary arteries is less than the heart muscle needs (a situation known as ischemia), one commonly experiences a tight, crushing sensation or pain (angina pectoris) in the center of the chest, or sometimes elsewhere (e.g. the left arm.)

Only rarely, it has been customarily believed, does ischemia occur without anginal pain, a situation known as silent ischemia. Now, however, the New England Journal of Medicine (318:1005) reports, it has been discovered that silent ischemia occurs quite often, especially at times of mental stress. Stress causes ischemia by temporarily constricting the blood vessels of the heart.

What is trans fat?

Trans fat (also known as trans fatty acids) are formed when liquid oils go through the chemical process of hydrogenation  to make the oils more solid. This provides food a longer shelf life and can improve taste, shape and texture. Some trans fat is also found naturally in small amounts in certain meat and dairy products. They are also in pre-made blends like pancake and the hot chocolate mix. But fats are not really bad altogether. There are lots  of different kinds of fats found in food. Some of these fats are okay while some of them are not. They are also essential in the body. They help in the adsorption of vitamins as well as a source of energy . For one to have a healthy diet, controlling his fat intake can do the trick.
