The Atkins plan begins with a strict-two-week Induction diet, which is hardcore high protein with virtually no carbohydrates - not even fruit. Although fruit is loaded with nutrients, it's also high in carbohydrates. I was shocked when I checked the carb counter book and discovered that one apple has 21 grams of carbs, one banana has 27, 10 dates have 61, one pear has 25, and one mango has 35.
This diet is strict - you can't cheat if you expect to see results. This is why: One Keebler deluxe graham cracker has 19 grams of carbs, one Nabisco Snacks Wells Peanut Butter chip cookie has 20, and one Milky Way candy bar has a whooping 36.
