Thumb Arthritis
It's a daily and annoying occurrence. You turn the key in the car ignition or you're buttoning your shirt and you experience a sharp pain in your thumb. Because of constant wear and tear, the joint at the base of the thumb, called carpometacarpal joint, tends to deteriorate and develop arthritis.

Thumb pain that occurs whenever you attempt to pinch or grasp something is often due to arthritis in the joint at the base of the thumb, called the carpometacarpal (CMC) joint. This joint gives the thumb its wide range of motion. Arthritis of the thumb typically occurs after age 40 and is more common in women.

Arthritis
Arthritis refers to a variety of joint problems that cause pain, swelling, and stiffness. simply put, arthritis means inflammation of a joint. Arthritis can occur at any age, but it affects older people the most.

There are over 100 different types of arthritis my doctor says, each with its own specific symptoms. Little is known about what causes most types. Some seem to run in families; other seem to be related to imbalances in body chemistry or immune system problems.
