Test from God
The basic question we should resolve is: How is big is God in my life?
- How much do I trust God? If we truly believe Him to be the Creator, the one who controls the universe as well as our lives, we will no longer feel insecure. His promise to provide our basic needs is recorded in Matthew 6:25-34. He is able and willing to fulfill His promise.
- How much do I love God? If we truly love God more than ourselves, we will not think we must have material possessions to be happy. For His sake, we will be willing to suffer deprivations, such as wearing old clothes again and again, eating out only when necessary . . . Why is my friend Ana willing to be a housemaid in order to support her younger brother through school? Because she loves him very much. Why was our Lord Jesus willing to leave His glorious place in Heaven to come and suffer for us, to the extent that His body was broken and His blood was shed? Because He loves us so much! How much are we willing to suffer for Him? The things we'll give up for God are little compared to His sacrifice.
- Who is the one I want to please most? It is natural for us to want to be accepted bu other people and to feel significant. These are intrinsic personal needs of man. But it is impossible to please everybody. Sometimes we have to make difficult choices. Who do we want to please most - God , or the people around us? Let me illustrate. Merry, a gifted pianist, held a recital. During the performance, the audience broke out into enthusiastic applause several times. But Merry did not seem to notice them and looked repeatedly towards the balcony. Finally, a broad smile appeared on her face and she seemed filled with joy, because the solitary figure seated on the balcony nodded her head in approval. That person was her piano teacher. The approval that really mattered to Merry was her teacher's. In our case, the approval that really matters is God's. He is our Creator, Savior, Teacher, Friend, lord, and Master. Ultimately, all glory belongs to Him, not to us. So whether or not we have a lot of money, whether or not we have the approval of people around us, let us remember that Jesus loves us and accepts us.
- Whose side am I on? Let us realize that Christians are redeemed people of God fighting against Satan in a spiritual warfare (Ephesians 6:12). Satan is throwing all he has against Christians- especially those in the business world. He uses greed, graft and corruption, unfair competition, materialism, and many other tactics. If a person always disobeys God in the course of his business career, whose side is he on? If we remain faithful to God even when the odds against us are tremendous, the final victory shall be ours. Philippians 1:6 assures us "He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
