With a debit card, the price of your purchase is deducted from your checking or saving account either immediately or within a few days, depending on the type of card you own. Some ATM cards (which are a type of debit card) now can be used to make purchase at gas stations and retail stores.
Master Card and Visa both offer debit cards through banks, credit unions and other financial institutes. They look similar to credit cards and can be used anywhere that credit cards like Mater Card or Visa are accepted.
